DOP Panel Discussion:
"Financial Recovery of Greece and Lessons for Austria"
The Daughters of Penelope Pallas Athena Vienna organized the distinguished panel discussion on Greece’s financial recovery and its relevance for Austria and Europe at Webster Vienna Private University. Esteemed speakers included Dr. Yiannis Stournaras (Governor, Bank of Greece), Dr. Andreas Dombret (former Bundesbank & ECB), Dr. Thomas Steiner (OeNB), and Univ. Prof. Dr. Nikolaos Antonakakis, with the discussion moderated by our dear sister and Governor of the Vienna chapter, Lydia Goutas!
The panelists shared unique insights, ranging from Greece’s determination to remain in the Eurozone, to the reforms prompted across Europe, and the social lessons of resilience and balance. An audience of more than 100 senior executives, academics, and professionals—including Martin Czurda, Willi Hemetsberger, Stefan Selden, Damianos Soumelidis, Doris Lahey-Anzinger, Valerie Ritzinger, Michael Michalopoulos, Benjamin Levit, Bernhard Engel, Hayri Cansever, MBA, Arndt Röchling, Roland Schaar, Reinhold Rehbichler, Wolfgang Wainig, Vjekoslav Bonic, Alexander Steinberger, Karl Jurka and Thomas Oberlechner — enriched the evening with thought-provoking questions and observations. Special thanks to our main sponsor, Lehner Executive Partners and in paticular, Gabriele Lehner!
Beyond its academic value, the event carried a philanthropic mission by raising funds for our first DOP scholarship in Austria, that supports a Greek student to study at Webster Vienna Private University. We thank all the donors from the bottom of our hearts for all the donations!! 🩵💙
By combining dialogue on Europe’s economic future with tangible social impact, the evening reflected the spirit of the Daughters of Penelope: promoting education, civic duty, and community support.
